Breitling Watches – Superocean Heritage Chronograph 46 Review

Are you ready for some great news? Well, you guys better are because I’ve got my hands on a couple of Breitling watches, brand new, just waiting to be worn and, of course, to be taken to a shoot. Today I’m going to review one of them, a fresh and crisp Breitling Superocean Heritage… wait for it… Chronograph 46. I’ve been waiting for a good version of these babies to come out for quite some time, and nowhere it is.

If you’ve been following my blog so far, or at least read a post now and then, you’d know that I love Breitling watches. These babies are some of my favorite, if not even THE favorite watches, so it’s much easier for me, and I enjoy a lot more to write a … let’s say Breitling Navitimer review than reviewing a Calatrava or a Patrimony Traditionnelle. Don’t get me wrong, nothing wrong with these because it’s always good to have variety, and you can’t exactly show up to a posh social gathering with a super sporty, rubber strap, Breitling Bentley and be taken seriously. A Breitling Mulliner tourbillon, if it looks good, well, that’s something else. But I think you catch my drift.
The point is I love the brand, and it can be an Avenger, a Chronomat, Breitling for Bentley, Breitling Tourbillon, you name, I dig it. However, for the last year or so, one collection has slowly but surely made it to the number one spot – the Superocean Heritage.
The Superocean Heritage 46 is one of the best Breitling watches in my collection, a truly awesome watch, so I guess you could imagine how excited I was when the chronograph versions came out. I just wanted to wait sometime and get my hands on good final versions, and I think I did, here’s one of them.

Like all my favorite Breitling watches, the theme is all stainless steel—really nice fully polished case, pushers, and of course, mesh bracelet. I like the way the mesh bracelet looks and feels, I think it adds some personality to it, and I don’t remember seeing this kind of bracelets used by too many other luxury brands. As an observation, the bracelet is a little different from the way you would find it on the original, and the difference lies in the way you secure it on your wrist, being like a strap buckle clasp instead of a deployment clasp.
I went for the black dial version, as you can see, which is the first model that you can find on the official website. The details are cloned close to perfection, from the font to subdial spacing and just about everything else. The caseback is solid stainless steel as well, and the size, as the name suggests, is 46mm across, just the way I like it, nice and big. The crystal has a fair amount of AR coating on it, but if you look closely, so does the genuine model, so I can’t complain.

Overall, I’d say this is one of the best looking I’ve seen lately, without being subjective. Pretty much all details are there, size is good, weight is good, so besides the closing mechanism and the crown, everything is right on target.

This baby is powered by a Japanese quartz movement. The gen comes with a 7750 type movement, probably modified by Breitling, but honestly, this doesn’t bother me at all. The running second's hand is pretty small, so it’s hard to tell that it’s not sweeping, and the big chronograph seconds hands has a really nice sweeping motion. Plus, don’t forget that nothing beats the accuracy of a quartz movement, and if you don’t plan on wearing the watch every day, you better don’t mind setting the time and date every time you get it on your wrist.

As an original, one of these bad boys sells for about 4K, that’s the lowest I could find on chrono24. Not a lot compared to other luxury watches, but still, it will burn a pretty nice hole in your pocket. I guess it’s okay to pay that much if you plan to have one, maybe two watches, but if you’re like me, addicted to timepieces, I think Breitling watches like this one are the way to go.
