When someone mentions Grand Seiko, you probably think of the Snowflake, or Tudor, the Black Bay or Nomos, the Tangente, but when someone mentions IWC Replica, depending on your personal collecting preferences, one of two watches may appear: the Big Pilot's Watch this, the Portuguese Automatic. That was the perfect excuse for me to review one of my all-time favorite watches, so join me as we critically analyze this legend.
The Portuguese have always been an interesting swiss replica watch to me from almost any angle, including its history, aesthetics, and even size. Visually, the Portuguese, and in particular this Automatic, has a distinctly Germanic look, no different than you would find with the most productive greats, such as Nomos, Glashutte Original, or A. Lange Söhne.
It has that character, I suspect, thanks to the combination of a silver-plated dial, which appears white, and its ultra-sleek, minimalist look. Although IWC is a Swiss company, it is based in the German-speaking region of Schaffhausen, which, when you find it on a map, seems to be more surrounded by Germany than Swiss. It may be here that the Portuguese, either his oldest ancestors or this latest iteration, have inherited this German aesthetic.
The original Portuguese had a simple seconds subdial at 6:00 and little else, but the modern Portuguese Automatic has not only small seconds, at 9:00, and date at 6:00, but a pretty amazing power reserve at all. 3:00 am. Despite the fact that it has two subdials and a date window, it remains completely clear and extremely readable. If it weren't that beautiful, you could even call it a tool best watches.
